Teaching motion graphics presents many challenges. Motion graphics practice is a convergence of skills traditionally found in Design, Film, TV and Animation. The tools are often changing both incrementally [CS3 to CS4] as well as being augmented [need to learn that 3D app.] So how do we create curricula that balance software skills, process and ideation skills, visual and verbal communication skills and an awareness of historic and contemporary practices? Are these the overarching skills that will sustain students as they transition to work and artistry outside the academy? This panel will be structured as a dialogue of Models + Methods + Challenges. Participation from academics, students and industry are welcome!

See above
What questions will be answered by the presentation?
What do student need to know as MG Designers and how do we give it to them.
What should we know before we arrive?
the topic. reflect on your experience in school and industry. what worked? what could have been better? what has changes?
Why are You speaking about this topic?
I am the coordinator of Motion Graphics at Columbia College and in that role I am interested in what makes a motion designer...not just today, but in 4-8 years.
Why is it going to be awesome?
It will be a great discussion. for the educators I certainly hope we'll share some fresh ideas. for the industry folks you will be able to express your needs, hopes and desires for new hires...and you'll be giving back to the practice you love. for students you can create that wish list of skills + structures.
