Init String

The String was initialized in 1997 when Josh Meredith and Aaron Anthony met in Fort Worth, Texas. Since both of them worked in tech support at the time working with modems it only seemed fitting to name the project Init String. An Init String is a command to force computers to connect via a modem. Shortly thereafter they began working with Michael (Smiley) Hale of Gift Culture who joined forces deploying his drumming skills with Josh and Aaron's psychedelic rhythms and beats. They soon released two albums, “Feedback Loops” and “Iterations” along with vinyl EP releases under their label Subtle Distortion Records. Multiple compilation tracks were released internationally to labels such as We Records, Nephlim Records, XYZ Distribution and Sundance. All three of them play as solo projects as well. Aaron established his own downtempo project called Artificial Life Preserver, Mike is widely known as Gift Culture and Josh composes music under his name Josh Meredith. Aaron Anthony, Josh Meredith, and Michael Hale are signed artists represented as Init String via the multimedia label known as Psymbolic.

BaseMotion, "Sala A Zaragoza"

BaseMOTION was founded in 2005 as the audiovisual division of creative studio BaseDESIGN. We specialise in direction for motion graphics & audiovisuals.

The first room of this exhibtion features a 10m wide projection that invites the visitor to think about the different ways to be thirsty. Is the desert really more thirsty than the city? Can thirst be positive?... Who's thirsty?...

The La Sed (Thirst) Pavilion was designed by architect Enric Ruiz Geli and the exhibition space was designed by industrial designer Martin Azúa. The Thirst pavilion consists of five rooms, with four audiovisual installations and one audio, all contributed by BaseMotion.

Expo 2008 (International Expo), takes as its theme the natural resource most affected by climate change. Water and Sustainable Development kicked off on June 14 in Zaragoza, Spain. Encompassing more than 60 acres along the Ebro River, the expo is true to its theme—all of its facilities are powered by renewable energy sources.

selections from "Our Favorite Things"

Since 1980, the 4 or 5 or 6 Floptops known as Negativland have been creating records, CDs, video, fine art, books, radio and live performance using appropriated sound, image and text. Mixing original materials and original music with things taken from corporately owned mass culture and the world around them, Negativland re-arranges these found bits and pieces to make them say and suggest things that they never intended to. In doing this kind of cultural archaeology and "culture jamming" (a term they coined way back in 1984), Negativland have been sued twice for copyright infringement.

MGFest will be showcasing a few selections from Negativland's newest release entitled "Our Favorite Things"  visit Negativland
